   Contrary to many people's belief, there is no age limit for an orthodontic treatment. Better communication and good motivation involved in adult patient's treatment can actually make the procedure very efficient and pleasant.

However, since there is no potential for further growth, the case needs to be carefully evaluated by an orthodontist that has a full understanding of the patient's main concern.

 If there is a skeletal problem, there are mainly two approaches.

 ▪ The treatment goal needs  to be set up to compensate the existing skeletal imbalance.

   The treatment should be focused on improving the aesthetics while maintaining a healthy condition.

 ▪ In case the skeletal imbalance is too severe, orthognathic surgery needs to be considered.

   In the majority of cases, the teeth can be treated completely by orthodontic treatment only. Different methods including the alveolar arch development, interproximal reduction or extraction of teeth can be used in many cases. Most recently, Microimplants have become popular in adult cases to deal with some problems that were difficult to solve in the past. It can be used in a variety of situations such as when palal expansion is needed in an adult, or when teeth need to be moved backward without using a device like headgear. The success rate is high under careful diagnosis and case selection.
